The Brazilian Department of Agriculture (MAPA) informed they are extending the investigation for irregular registration of pesticide Diamond BR (imidacloprid 48% SC) by Ouro Fino and fungicide Locker (tebuconazole 10% + carbendazim 20% + kresoxyn-methyl 12.5% SC) by FMC. The investigation started in November 9th, 2012.
If ANVISA (Sanitation National Agency) doesn’t approve it, the pesticides could not be released in the Brazilian market. These two products have reached the national market without passing ANVISA’s evaluation, which considers the possible damages of the substances to human health. This evaluation process should be mandatory for registration at MAPA, but it for these two pesticides this part wasn’t done.
Locker by FMC Chemical of Brazil, used on soybeans, had its registration published officially in June, 2012, but was in the market since March. In addition Diamond BR, manufactured by Ouro Fino Agribusiness, used on sugar cane crops, had its registration published on September, 26th.
Besides these two products, there are irregularities with at least three other substances, which did not get the final MAPA registration, but they were approved by ANVISA without going through the evaluation. Two of them are also by Ouro Fino: Seguro BR and Colonel BR.
