New US approval plan for fiscal 2008/09
Date:11-26-2007
The US EPA's Office of Pesticide Programs (OPP) has scheduled registration decisions for ten new active ingredients in fiscal 2008. This is a sharp reduction on the 18 decisions for new ais or tolerances originally scheduled for fiscal 2007, but is of a similar order to the 12 approval decisions actually made during the year.
One of the ais on the fiscal 2008 schedule was approved during the first month of the plan period. The OPP granted a conditional registration to Arysta LifeScience's fumigant, iodomethane, in October. The latest plan includes two ais for which registration decisions had been scheduled for fiscal 2007: Chemtura's herbicide, quinoclamine; and Valent's insecticide, pyridalyl.
Two ais with a range of crop uses that appeared in the fiscal 2007 plan no longer appear in the latest schedule: BASF's insecticide, metaflumizone; and Bayer CropScience/Valent's fungicide, fluopicolide. Crop-use decisions have been scheduled in the OPP's fiscal 2008 plan for new uses of existing ais, following the granting of non-crop registrations or import tolerances in fiscal 2007. Kureha/Valent/BASF's fungicide, metconazole, has moved from the new ai plan for fiscal 2008 to the additional use list.
