The European Commission will examine the proposal to extend provisional approvals for two years for two active ingredients, in order to provide more time for confirmation of the completeness of the dossiers. The two active ingredients are insecticide, emamectin, from Syngenta and insecticide/acaricide, maltodextrin, from Biological Crop Protection.
Syngenta has submitted registration application for emamectin in June 2006 and Biological Crop Protection applied approval for maltodextrin in July 2008. Syngenta has marketed emamectin as Affirm and registered it in Japan, Australia, South Korea, USA, Taiwan, Mexico, Indonesia, Israel and Thailand for use on various vegetables and cotton.
