US scientists improve biopesticide formulation
Date:09-11-2008
US researchers have found that the fungus, Metarhizium anisopliae, can be formulated into a more effective bio-insecticide against soil-borne pests. Scientists at the USDA’s National Center for Agricultural Utilization Research (Peoria, Illinois) have been able to produce microsclerotia of M anisopliae in liquid culture. Microsclerotia can be formulated into granules and sized more easily than traditional spore-based formulations, the researchers say. They are also said to be more effective, cheaper to produce and more resilient than existing formulations.
