Illegal pesticide residues were detected in 1.2% of the 3,562 samples of more than 100 commodities tested in the US state of California in 2007. Residues above tolerances were found in 0.1% of samples, while 1.1% had residues for a pesticide not authorised for use on that commodity. Residues within tolerances were detected in 36.2% of samples, with the majority having residues at less than 10% of the tolerance. No residues were found in 62.6% of samples tested by the California EPA Department of Pesticide Regulation’s monitoring programme.
