Rising pesticide and other input prices are impacting on the Brazilian cotton farming industry, according to the national agricultural market research group, AgRural. The Brazilian business newswire, Agencia Estado, cites the group as predicting a 12-14% fall in the national cotton area. “Fertiliser and even insecticides and fungicides are the villains this year,” the AgRural reportedly says. Costs of cotton production in some states are up almost 30%. Maize and soybeans are expected to take up most of the shortfall.
