Brazil recycling up 10% in 1st half 2008
Date:07-29-2008
Brazil recycled 12,000 tonnes of empty pesticide packaging across 375 collection points in the first half of 2008. Collections were up by 9.8% on the same period last year, the pesticide container disposal organisation, the Inpev, says. The major recycling states in the first six months were: Mato Grosso, which collected 2,600 tonnes, Parana (2,000 tonnes); and Sao Paulo (1,600 tonnes). The main risers included Goias, which recycled 53.2% more than in the first half of 2007, and Rio Grande do Sul (+32.4%). Minor states saw huge rises, such as Alagoas with a more than five-fold increase and Tocantins with a near four-fold rise. A new container recycling company, Campo Limpio Reciclagem e Transformacao de Plasticos, was set up at the end of May.
