Zhejiang Yongnong's glufosinate project approved
Date:07-28-2008
A recently completed project by the Chinese Zhejiang University of Technology and the agrochemical producer, Zhejiang Yongnong Chemical, to develop industrial production and formulation of the herbicide, glufosinate-ammonium, in China has been approved. The Zhejiang agrochemical industry association endorsed the project on behalf of the Zhejiang provincial government’s Science and Technology Department. The Department provided Yuan 760,000 ($110,960) to aid in the development of the project.
The agrochemical research centre of the Zhejiang University of Technology developed formulation techniques for the herbicide, before manufacturing responsibility was passed onto Zhejiang Yongnong Chemical. A production facility was established in 2006 with a total output capacity of 800 tonnes/year. Trial production began in April 2007 and the glufosinate-ammonium has already been sold on the export and domestic markets. “Zhejiang Yongnong Chemical is the only pesticide manufacturer in China to have registered and begun industrial production of glufosinate-ammonium, which is expensive and difficult to produce,” says Lin Yan of the Zhejiang agrochemical industry association.
