New herbicides for 2012
Date:11-24-2011
Axial Star herbicide (active ingredients: pinoxaden + fluroxypyr) — Axial Star herbicide serves as the foundation for an effective weed control program, helping simplify the complexity of weed management in wheat (excluding durum), winter wheat and barley. Axial Star will help manage the toughest weeds while providing crop rotation flexibility next season.
Fierce herbicide (active ingredients: flumioxazin + pyroxasulfone) — The new Valent option, pending EPA registration, will be launched in 2012 in soybeans as well as reduced tillage field corn. Fierce contains the a premix of flumioxazin and pyroxasulfone, which adds another mode of action and an additional herbicide for controlling Palmer amaranth, waterhemp and common ragweed.
LeadOff herbicide (active ingredients: rimsulfuron+ thifensulfuron) — New for DuPont, LeadOff delivers long-lasting weed control and crop rotation flexibility for early preplant and pre-emergence use in corn, soybeans and cotton. With contact plus residual capabilities, it controls many difficult grass and broadleaf weeds, including marestail, annual bluegrass, henbit and other winter annuals.
New Combination of pinoxaden plus fenoxaprop — Pending EPA registration, this postemergence grass herbicide will provide wheat growers with a new weed control tool designed specifically to target green foxtail, which is a difficult grass to control in the Northern Plains.
Parallel Plus herbicide (active ingredients: metolachlor + atrazine) — The MANA product provides excellent offers excellent pre- and postemergence control of grasses, pigweeds, waterhemp and other small-seed broadleaves including glyphosate-resistant weed species. With two modes of action, Parallel Plus offers a solid foundation for a two-pass program on Roundup Ready, Clearfield and LiberytLink corn as well as conventional seed varieties.
OpTill Pro herbicide (active ingredients: saflufenacil + imazethapyr) — The “Pro” in this new BASF herbicide stands for “premium residual option.” Powered by Kixor herbicide technology, the new soybean product contains three sites of action for an enhanced burndown with premium residual control of today’s toughest weeds, including glyphosate-resistant waterhemp.
Sierra herbicide (active ingredient: flucarbazone-sodium) — Sierra herbicide helps growers manage the complexity of weed control in cereals by controlling the toughest weeds, providing a new resistance management tool and offering customized weed control solutions. Sierra is registered for use on spring wheat, winter wheat and durum.
Zemax herbicide (active ingredients: mesotrione + s-metolachlor) — The formulation is expected to receive EPA registration in fourth quarter 2011. Based on the same capsule-suspension formulation technology as Halex GT, Zemax will combine two modes of action — mesotrione and S-metolachlor — into one product that will provide residual grass and small-seeded broadleaf weed control from pre-plant or pre-emergence up to 30-inch corn. The formulation is expected to be registered for use in field corn, seed corn, sweet corn, yellow popcorn and grain sorghum.
Zidua herbicide — Delivers residual control of small-seed broadleaf weeds and grasses, including glyphosate-resistant Palmer amaranth and waterhemp. Initially, Zidua is anticipated to be labeled for use in corn and soybeans. Future label expansions may include uses in wheat, cotton, sunflowers, peanuts and other crops as well.
