Syngenta, a global leader in agricultural solutions, has chosen its production unit located in Paulínia, in the interior of São Paulo, to host the company's first Product Technology and Engineering Center (PT&E) in Latin America. With an investment of R$ 65 million, the facility was built in a privileged region, close to airports, universities, and other company units. The space, designed to be the core where research and innovation are transformed into innovative and efficient field solutions, is fully aligned with the organization's sustainability priorities, which are: more productivity with less impact; regenerating soil and nature; increasing rural prosperity; and sustainable operations.
In light of the expectation that extreme climate events will become more recurrent, technological innovations must support and enhance the resilience of productive systems. To do this, it will be essential to apply knowledge and develop technologies that generate new solutions focused on the evolution of sustainable agriculture. "In this regard, it is important to highlight that agricultural protectives play a fundamental role in the effective management of pests, diseases, and weeds, whose pressure increases every year. By applying modern and increasingly developed protectives for specific targets, we support the evolution of productive agriculture, as well as sustainable management of agricultural activities, improving efficiency and rational use of natural resources, such as soil and water," explains Rodrigo Marques, Director of Product Engineering and Technology at Syngenta.
According to Marques, Brazil can and should lead the innovation agenda in the agricultural sector to minimize the negative impacts caused by climate change. "Brazilian agriculture is already a world leader in sustainable agricultural practices, but we need to continue cooperating with effective adaptation ideas and proposals. The implementation of the Product Technology and Engineering Center in Brazil - an unprecedented project in Latin America - has become fundamental to Syngenta's strategy. We remain committed to uniting technology, innovation, and science with a focus on developing solutions that address current and future field needs."
The PT&E Center is more than a facility; it is a testament to the passion for customers and Syngenta's commitment to keeping innovation as a guiding light and shaping a more sustainable future, developing alternatives to accelerate productivity and prosperity of agricultural crops. "The Center also expands our ability to generate innovations and accelerates the arrival of solutions to the market, bringing more prominence to the country in the development of products that will strengthen our portfolio directed at Brazilian agriculture," Marques concludes.
With a modern structure and equipped with six state-of-the-art laboratories, the PT&E Technology Center will serve not only the needs of the regional market and its tropical agriculture, including Brazil and Latin American countries, but also strengthen Syngenta's position in the global scenario.
There are six laboratories that make up the Syngenta center in Paulínia (SP)
In total, the site has spaces focused on fundamental segments for the company's business, such as:
Formulation Laboratory: plays a crucial role in the innovation and development of advanced agricultural solutions;
Analytical Chemistry Laboratory: essential for the advancement of new formulations, focusing on precise and detailed analyses of solutions under development;
Biological Laboratory: studies the use of microorganisms and/or their metabolites as a complement in pest management;
Process Engineering Laboratory: a unit with the capacity for 50 scaling tests and the generation of approximately 3,000 liters of formulated products per year, which will support both the introduction of technologies in factories and field tests;
Packaging Laboratory: reinforces our commitment to sustainability, enabling the development of packaging that optimizes transportation, storage, and reverse logistics;
Application Technology Laboratory: focused on the development of techniques that maximize the effectiveness of products in the field.
With approximately 2,500 m², the PT&E Technology Center is located in Syngenta's largest formulation and packaging factory in the world and features a sustainability infrastructure that includes the use of natural ventilation and lighting, as well as photovoltaic energy.
The company has six other similar units on other continents, located in the following places: United States (Greensboro), England (Jealotts Hill), Switzerland (Münchwilen), India (Goa), Singapore (Kendall), and China (Shanghai).
