Global tropical vegetable seed company East-West Seed (EWS) introduced an advanced seed coating technology called Nutrishield+ to help Filipino farmers boost their crop production.
The new seed technology aims to improve the seed quality and ensure optimum growth outcome, survivability and successful seedling establishment.

"Vegetable farmers across the whole country help ensure food security and nutrition for everyone," says Jay Lopez, General Manager of East-West Seed Philippines.
The seed company said Nutrishield+ acts as Seed Armor that nourishes and protects from seed germination to seedling growth.
Seeds or products with Nutrishield+ seed coating technology may contain a combination of active ingredients such as micronutrients, fungicides, insecticides and biofertilizers.
"Faster emergence, bigger seedlings and more uniformity — this technology not only helps farmers thrive but also consumers live healthier lives with more nutritious vegetables," Lopez said.
This groundbreaking innovation from East West Seed was unveiled in a product launch at Hacienda Angelita in San Rafael, Bulacan on May 10, where some vegetable farmers shared the results and benefits of using 'Nutrishield+ armored products.
Vegetable farmers shared their testimonials on the efectiveness of NutriShield+ (From L to R: Eric Garcia, Johny Gatuz, and Edmundo Miranda)
Johnny Gatuz, whose farm is located in Bulacan, shared the growth-boosting qualities of the NutriShield+ that he experienced with East-West Seed's eggplant varieties fortuner and calixto.
"The seedlings exhibit remarkable qualities. Right from the outset, their uniformity and vibrant color are striking. Even after the transplanting process, discernible vigor improvements including wider leaves, increased branching, and robustness in growth become apparent," Gatuz said.
Edmundo Miranda, a Bulacan corn farmer, highlighted the seedling protection using East-West Seed's sweet pearl variety: "The growing corn plants are not immediately affected by the fall armyworm. We can save on three to four sprays for corn. That's where our savings come from."

There are 18 varieties across eight crops with NutriShield+, including waxy corn, sweet corn, cucumber, bitter gourd, eggplant, pumpkin, tomato and watermelon.
