Australians warned over resistant mites
Date:05-30-2008
Farmers in Western Australia are being advised to adopt IPM strategies following the detection of red-legged earth mites (Halotydeus destructor) with resistance to the pyrethroid insecticides, bifenthrin and alpha-cypermethrin. The resistant pests were identified on two properties in the state. The Western Australia Department of Agriculture advises farmers to plant susceptible canola crops after cereals rather than pasture to reduce the need for chemical control. Where pesticides are needed, the Department recommends varying the modes of action employed.
