Date:07-21-2011
S&W Seed Company today announced receipt of its initial alfalfa seed order from its first direct customer in the nation of Kuwait. The order, generated through S&W Seed's recently announced consulting relationship with Richard Penner Consulting, is expected to ship before the end of this month.
Mark Grewal, president and chief executive officer of S&W Seed, said, "We believe this order is just the beginning of many new orders generated by our direct selling model in the various countries that comprise the Middle East. This Kuwaiti order is the first that will ship in S&W branded bags and is indicative of how S&W is actively pursuing its strategic marketing goal of building brand awareness throughout the Middle East. Our high heat- and salt-tolerant alfalfa seed varieties are ideally suited to grow and thrive in the harsh growing conditions that dominate this particular region. We firmly believe that in the coming years, the farming community in Kuwait and throughout the Middle East will come to see S&W Seed as a leading provider that can deliver superior yield and feed quality."
Mr. Grewal concluded, "This order fulfills an important strategic initiative for S&W Seed as we expand the direct marketing and sales of our products into regions that require the high salt- and heat-tolerant attributes of our alfalfa seed. We are pleased with this initial order and look forward to many future opportunities as we proceed in the execution of our strategic international marketing plan."
In field trials conducted by the University of California-Davis and the University of Arizona, S&W Seed varieties SW 9720 and SW 9215 have consistently demonstrated high yields of high quality hay grown in a wide array of harsh farming conditions. SW 9720 has earned distinction as the number one high-yielding alfalfa variety with salt tolerance in university trials, and led all entries in both yield and feed quality in a trial conducted at the USDA Salinity Laboratory where alfalfa and other forage species were under salt water irrigation management. Similarly, SW 9215 has tested among the highest yielding salt-tolerant alfalfas certified to date.
