Generics outsold proprietary agchems in Brazil 2007
Date:05-13-2008
Generic agrochemical products accounted for the majority of sales in Brazil last year in value and volume terms. The split in sales between generic and proprietary pesticides was 54.6% ($2,932.9 million) for the former and 45.4% ($2,439.1 million) for the latter. Total sales amounted to $5,372 million. The figures are similar to those of 2006, when generics accounted for 54.2% of pesticide sales. There will be a wider range of generic products following a boom in generic product registrations last year. That came after the passing of Decree 5,981, which sought to speed up the approval process from a period of four years to a target of 150 days. There had been a large backlog of applications.
