US solicits more methyl bromide exemptions
Date:05-09-2008
The US EPA has invited applications for critical use exemptions (CUEs) for the fumigant, methyl bromide, for 2011 and beyond. The Agency will also accept supplemental requests for CUEs by those who missed last year’s deadline for 2010 exemptions. Applications must be submitted to the EPA by July 31st. The US authorities will review them and submit a national nomination package to Montreal Protocol members by January 24th 2009. The Parties are expected to authorise CUEs for 2011 in November 2009. Methyl bromide stocks held by US companies amounted to 6,458 tonnes at the end of 2007, a 15.8% reduction from the previous year. Stocks amounted to 16,422 tonnes in 2003.
