EU agchem prices down in 2007
Date:04-25-2008
Average agrochemical prices in the EU declined by 0.6% in 2007, when corrected for inflation, says the European Commission's statistical service, Eurostat. Pesticides were the only agricultural input to show a fall in real prices, with other inputs such as seed, fertiliser and feed up by over 5%. In nominal terms, agrochemical prices increased by 1.3%. EU farmers benefited from a 9.6% rise in the real prices of crop products in 2007, mainly due to higher demand and a lower harvest, Eurostat says. The strongest increases were for cereals (+45.5%), forage plants (+11.5%) and fruit (+5.7%), but prices fell for olive oil (-20.1%), potatoes (-5.5%), and vegetables and horticultural products (-0.4%).
