Cuba will increase its biopesticide production capacity in 2021, with the completion of two biopesticide plants under construction in Havana and Villa Clara provinces, Cuba´s Agriculture Ministry reported.
Both plants, belonging to Labiofam Business Group (Pharmaceutical Labs), will have a fermentation capacity of up to six million liters, Yordano Alambares, expert in Plant Protection Policy at the Plant Health Directorate, told Prensa Latina.
In view of the foregoing, Alambares specified, will provide coverage to treat about four million hectares annually.
"In this way, we will cover a large part of the demand for some biological control agents nationwide and, according to our disposition, pertinent exports may be conducted in accordance with the needs raised by some interested nations."
Alambares praised among pesticide production breakthroughs and use of biological control agents, those ones of creating natural organisms not harmful to environment.
He also indicated that these natural organisms allow a significant reduction in indiscriminate use of chemical products and, in turn, decreased toxic loads.
Plus, these natural organisms provide sovereignty and food safety to the country, since healthy crops free of chemical agents are obtained, that´s why they are regarded as organic products, with a higher price in the international market, he stressed.
