EU sets REACH registration fees
Date:04-24-2008
The European Commission has set the fees for the new EU Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals (REACH) Regulation, which includes agrochemical intermediates and co-formulants. The basic registration fee will be: €1,600 ($2,540) for substances with annual production below ten tonnes; €4,300 ($6,825) for 10-100 tonnes; €11,500 ($18,250) for 100-1,000 tonnes; and €31,000 ($49,195) for those above 1,000 tonnes.
There will be discounts of 30% for "medium" companies, 60% for "small-sized" concerns and 90% for "micro" firms. A 25% reduction will be available for companies that co-operate on joint registration submissions. A lower registration fee will apply to intermediates, because of the "much lower" workload, the Commission says. The REACH pre-registration period starts on June 1st. The fees will partly finance the new European Chemicals Agency in Helsinki, Finland, which will manage the REACH procedures.
