Kenogard sue over generic pyryproxyfen
Date:04-23-2008
Sumitomo Chemical and its Spanish subsidiary, Kenogard (Barcelona), have started legal action against distributor companies of a generic version of the insecticide, pyryproxyfen (pyriproxyfen), in Spain. The generic products’ labelling claims that the products contain the active ingredient. But they either include an inferior quality of the ai or do not contain it. The sale of the products would have “a detrimental impact on our reputation”, the company added. Pyryproxyfen was developed by Sumitomo and has been marketed since 1993 in Spain, where Kenogard sells it as Juvinal 10 EC and Sumitomo as Atominal. It remains a leading Spanish insecticide for use against whiteflies and scales on horticultural crops and citrus fruits. Generic versions of the products in Spain must have an equivalent formulation to the original registration.
