Rallis India is to set up two new agrochemical production units in India. One of the plants is being established at Dahej in western India for the manufacture of active ingredients. The other plant, to be set up at Jammu in north India, would be a formulation unit. The cumulative investment for the two plants will be around Rs 2,000 million ($50.9 million).
Rallis currently has five production facilities in India: Ankleshwar (ai plant for fungicides); Turbhe (ai plant for herbicides); Lote (ai and formulation plant for the insecticide, acephate); Patancheru (ai plant for insecticides); and Akola (formulation plant). The combined capacity of the plants is over 10,000 tonnes of ai and 30,000 tonnes of formulations per year.
The company has also launched a new fungicide, Takumi (flubendiamide), in the Indian market in collaboration with Nihon Nohyaku. New product launches had played a key role in Rallis' sales of Rs 7,027.5 million in the year to March 31st 2007. Nihon Nohyaku's insecticide, Applaud (buprofezin), which was launched by Rallis in 2006, contributed Rs 370 million in the launch year. Rallis also markets two other Nihon Nohyaku products, the insecticide/fungicide, Fukione (isoprothiolane) and the acaricide, Sedna (fenpyroximate).
