Callisto Xtra post-emergence herbicide has received registration from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for all major corn-producing states.
Callisto Xtra combines Callisto and AAtrex in a premix, Callisto Xtra is a tank mix partner for glyphosate herbicides in glyphosate-tolerant corn.
"The herbicidal synergism of Callisto Xtra means growers benefit from the strengths of two modes of action that work together to deliver better weed control than expected based on the control from the individual components," says Gordon Vail, herbicide technical brand manager, Syngenta Crop Protection. "The result is a whole that is greater than the sum of its parts, or in other words, 1 plus 1 equals 3."
"Callisto Xtra provides enhanced control of broadleaf weeds such as lambsquarters, waterhemp, pigweed and ragweed, which are becoming harder to manage with glyphosate alone," Vail adds. "Plus, it provides faster burndown of weeds compared to glyphosate alone, or other HPPD herbicides plus glyphosate."
Other brands in the Callisto family include Halex GT, Lumax, Lexar, and Callisto. "Growers will continue to have access to Callisto for use in corn greater than 12 inches in height and for the wide range of other crops for which Callisto is registered," says Carroll Moseley, herbicide brand manager, Syngenta Crop Protection.
These crops include cranberry, blueberry, lingonberry, flax, pearl millet, asparagus, bluegrass grown for seed, perennial ryegrass grown for seed, tall fescue grown for seed, oats, rhubarb, grain sorghum and sweet sorghum. While Callisto Xtra is registered for sale and use in most states, growers should check with their state or local extension service before buying or using this product.
