The Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority has recommended the approval of three products based on Sumitomo Chemical's insecticide, clothianidin. Shield (clothianidin 200 g/litre) is recommended for the control of aphids and mirids on cotton and for rust thrips (Chaetanaphothrips signipennis) and weevil borers (Cosmopolites sordidus) on bananas. Samurai (clothianidin 50%) is for the control of woolly aphids (Eriosoma lanigerum) on apples, mealybugs and codling moths (Cydia pomonella) on apples and pears, and green peach aphids (Myzus persicae) and oriental fruit moths (Grapholita molesta) on peaches and nectarines. Stealth (clothianidin 50%) is aimed at African black beetles (Heteronychus arator) on turf.
