Syngenta Canada develops new wheat herbicide Sierra and Pace
Date:11-18-2009
Syngenta Crop Protection is developing two new product offerings for Canadian wheat growers, Sierra™ and Pace™, in a move designed to increase the diversity of grass weed management tools available to Prairie producers.
Sierra will be a top performing Group 2 graminicide based on the active ingredient
flucarbazone.
Flucarbazone offers excellent grass weed management control and provides an effective Group 2 chemistry option for use as part of the Syngenta Total Approach™ to grass weed management. Pace will be a co-pack based on
flucarbazone and
glyphosate (Touchdown®) for pre-seed burndown in wheat*.
"Whether it be through our own in-house R&D or third-party collaborations, as in the case of Sierra and Pace, Syngenta is committed to providing Canadian growers important tools to have at their disposal to practice good stewardship and sustainable farming practices,” said Patrick Crampton, head of marketing at Syngenta Crop Protection Canada. “When coupled with our other leading Group 1 herbicides including Horizon® NG, Axial® and Broadband™ along with Avenge®, a Group 8 herbicide, we believe we will have the most balanced wheat portfolio in western Canada, completing our Total Approach™ offer for grass weed management.
*Pending approval by the Pest Management Regulatory Agency
Sierra and Pace are not currently registered for sale or use in Canada.
