Frontier Scientific Expands With Ag-Chem Acquisition
Date:01-22-2015
Frontier Scientific, Inc. (FSI) has acquired the assets of the entomology division of Bio-Serv, Inc. -- a leading provider of insect rearing supplies and diets for agricultural research, where insect-resistant seeds, engineered crop traits and bio-friendly pest control solutions promote increased growth for agricultural-chemical research.
"This continues our strategic move into the agricultural-chemical market segment," said W. Tim Miller, President and CEO of FSI, "leveraging our chemical and logistics capabilities through this expanded offering of products and services."
According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the world population will reach 9.1 billion by 2050 – increasing global agricultural demand for crop production and developing biofuels as alternative energy sources.
"The related and growing demand for chemical and modified seed solutions presents a strong worldwide growth platform for Frontier's capabilities," said Miller.
FSI's successful history and current expansion are supported by state-of-the-art infrastructure, which is reflected through expert-level experience and core capabilities in custom chemistry, assay development, protein expression and sample management.
FSI has existing agricultural projects, including novel compounds in development and in-field tests of citrus greening disease, fungal growth and crop problems -- wheat rust and fusarium wilt (in bananas) -- and prevention of mosquito larvae and cherry fruit flies.
Effective immediately, the operations and assets acquired through this transaction relocate to FSI's Newark, DE (ag-division) facility, designed specifically to provide operations and production support for FSI's insect-related agricultural products.
Bio-Serv will continue operations in Newark, DE at FSI's specialized entomology facility -- designed for insect rearing, production and distribution -- with proven quality and consistency for 12+ years.
