DuPont expands in central Europe
Date:11-29-2007
DuPont has opened an office in Sofia, Bulgaria, as part of its growth strategy for emerging markets. The new office follows the opening of one in Serbia in November. They are the latest of a string of sites that the company has set up in the east European region, including offices in Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania and the Baltic countries.
DuPont's Sofia office builds on previous business in the area. The company has had a "sales and marketing presence" in Bulgaria since 1991, but the office is its first in the country, notes Ian Hudson, DuPont president for Europe, Middle East and Africa. The Sofia office will also serve customers in Macedonia and Albania. DuPont's seed and crop protection products are driving that business.
The development supports DuPont's plans to enter growing emerging markets. "Eastern and central Europe are important markets in executing DuPont's strategy of 'going where the growth is'," Mr Hudson says. "Central Europe is a critical growth area for us as we expand our market reach," he adds. The company employs over 500 people in the region.
