The SriLanka Economic Development Ministry yesterday launched Liquid Bio-fertilizer projects in the North Central Province as part of the government’s Organic Agriculture Development Programme to produce toxic-free agro-products in Sri Lanka to encourage the growth of organic agriculture.
The ministry introduced liquid bio-fertilizer projects to farmers in the Anuradhapura district on the instructions of President Mahinda Rajapaksa, who first brought the idea of promoting Organic Agriculture to the attention of Parliament as a measure to establish Sri Lanka’s food security.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa allocated Rs 500 million for the development of Organic Agriculture. Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa and Deputy Minister S M Chandrasena took steps to distribute Rs 2,882,000 among 750 agri-farmers at 40 Agrarian Service Centers in Anuradhapura under the Program to start organic farms in their lands.
