The European Commission has given EU member states permission to extend provisional approvals for BASF's fungicide, boscalid, for up to two years. The extension is to allow more time for the EU authorities to evaluate data and complete the full process for listing boscalid on Annex I of the EU agrochemical registration Directive (91/414). This is the second time that provisional approvals for the active ingredient have been extended. BASF originally submitted its application for EU approval to Germany in 2001. Boscalid received its first provisional approvals in Germany and the UK in 2003 and has since been registered in several European countries.
