A pesticide named Pathak, imported from China, and destined for the treatment of trees against worms, including trees that have been planted to fight desertification.?

Even if this chemical has not been tested before, elsewhere, worldwide, the Ministry of Agriculture decided using it by early this week, the same source added.

The Algerian company that has imported the pesticide from China has not taken into consideration its destructive effects on trees and animals. It has been, mostly, attracted by its low price.

This pesticide which is to be used through 10 provinces will have bad impacts on the Green Belt, which includes 50 thousand hectares of trees. Worse more, this pesticide will be used to treat the trees of Presidential residencies like the one in Oran and Zeralda in Algiers.?

In a phone call with El Khabar, Mr. Mohamed Seghir Noual, Technical Director at the National Administration of Forests, has denied the abovementioned information, pointing out that the competent services have adopted this product following a national and international tender.

Another rival company is likely behind these rumours about this imported product, added Mr. Noual. He indicated that this chemical has been tested by the competent services at the Ministry of Agriculture; noting that some samples have been brought to accredited laboratories in the University of Bab Ezzouar, and Pasteur institute.
