The Chinese chemical company, Tianshan Environmental Kuche Dimethyl Ether, has begun construction of a facility to produce 30,000 tonnes per year of the glyphosate intermediate, iminodiacetonitrile (IDAN). The new plant will be in Xinjiang’s Akesu region. The facility has a total investment of Yuan 227 million ($33.2 million), and construction is due to be completed within one year. The plant will also produce 12,000 tonnes per year of ammonium sulfate as a secondary product. The facility is the second stage of the company’s large-scale investment in the Akesu region, following on from the completion of a 60,000 tonne per year dimethyl ether production facility.
