Syngenta plans to introduce four new pesticide active ingredients in 16 formulations in Japan in 2009-2010. The company’s Japanese subsidiary, Syngenta Japan aims to attain annual sales of ¥10,000 million ($91 million) from the new products by 2013, reports Japan Chemical Week.
The ais are: the fungicide, mandipropamid, to control downy mildew (Plasmopara viticola) on grapevines and late blight (Phytophthora infestans) on potatoes; the herbicide, prosulfocarb, to control rice weeds and broadleaf weeds in wheat and barley; the herbicide, mesotrione, used against the paddy weed, Japanese bulrush (Scirpus juncoides); and the acaricide, abamectin, to control whiteflies (Bemisia tabaci), thrips and spider mites (Tetranychus urticae) in fruit crops.
Syngenta expects registration in Japan for mandipropamid between January and February 2009, for prosulfocarb between summer and autumn 2009, for mesotrionein in autumn 2009 and for abamectin in 2010. Syngenta’s fungicide, Revus (mandipropamid), was one of its main growth drivers globally last year.
