France recycled 4,600 tonnes of empty pesticide containers in 2007, which accounted for 60% of the total, says the French agrochemical industry association, the UIPP. The result was achieved as a result of the work of the waste management organisation, Adi Valor, which was created in 2001 at the initiative of the UIPP. Around 9,000 tonnes of obsolete pesticide stock has been collected by it over the period 2001-07. Some 2,000 tonnes of stock are still to be collected. The UIPP says that France is the only European country, apart from Belgium, to have a body for the collection of both empty packaging and expired products.
