Prowl H2O (active ingredient: pendimethalin) has received registration from the Pest Management Regulatory Agency for use in soybeans. Under the new registration Prowl H2O can be applied pre-plant in combination with glyphosate to manage tough grasses and select broadleaf weeds in both IP and GT soybeans.
"Prowl H2O delivers excellent residual activity on a variety of tough weeds such as crabgrass, green foxtail, and lamb's-quarters," says Andrew Elgersma, Marketing Manager for Eastern Herbicides at BASF Canada. "And its unique formulation offers improved handling and application with less staining and odour than original Prowl EC."
Prowl H2O is also a fit on coarse, sandy soils where its unique activity binds itself to the soil particles to stay where it's needed most. The result is effective weed control and protection against early weed competition.
"This new registration benefits glyphosate tolerant and IP soybean growers alike," says Elgersma. "GT soybean growers will have more time to get the in-crop glyphosate applied, while IP growers have a new mode of action to complement existing programs like Conquest and Clean Sweep for fewer re-sprays."
Two additional registrations were received for tank-mix combinations on GT corn, including using Prowl H2O with glyphosate, and using Prowl H2O with Marksman and glyphosate. Both label registrations are for post-emergence application at the 1 - 4 leaf stage of GT corn to manage barnyard grass, crabgrass, green foxtail, lamb's-quarters, and redroot pigweed.
