After receiving some comments from discouraged farmers Brazeau County has decided to make some changes to its pesticide container-recycling program.
Several years ago an agreement had been made with the waste management facility outside of town to allow people to drop off their containers at a bin that would be emptied by Crop Life of Canada. Crop Life of Canada, along with the provincial and federal government, agreed to recycle the containers for free as long as they were being dropped off.
However, some residents going to the landfill to drop off their containers are being stuck with the scale charge and it is discouraging them from recycling.
To help ratify this issue the County is purchasing five recycling units to be set up at key waste transfer stations around the county. These include Easyford, Rocky Rapids, Lindale, Buck Creek and Breton.
Rick Ennis, the agricultural fieldman for the county, says the bins will be coming as soon as the order gets processed because the crops are now starting to get to the point where they will need to be sprayed.
