The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) completed risk assessments for 19 pesticide active ingredients during 2007 and released 46 pesticide evaluations for public consultation, according to its latest annual report. The EFSA's pesticide residues panel completed one risk assessment and held one public consultation. The panel also received six requests from the European Commission to assess specific residue issues and issued ten scientific opinions on specific issues during the year. By contrast, the EFSA's panel on genetically modified organisms received 38 requests from the Commission for specific investigations and issued six scientific opinions. It completed just two risk assessments and held one public consultation.
