Cheminova has agreed to acquire an Australian agrochemical formulation and packaging facility from Bayer CropScience. Cheminova’s Australian subsidiary, Ospray (Sydney, New South Wales), will assume management responsibility for the facility in Wyong, New South Wales, on completion of the deal. This is expected during the fourth quarter of 2008.
The Wyong site has been operated by Bayer for over 20 years. It produces a range of the most common formulation types and a variety of packaging types and sizes, Cheminova points out. One of the plants at the site is dedicated to the amination and formulation of the herbicide, glyphosate, which is a key product in the Ospray range. The Wyong facility will continue to serve Bayer and other customers after Cheminova takes it over.
Ospray is involved in agrochemical sales and distribution but does not have any production facilities. The acquisition of the Wyong site will improve the company’s position in the Australian market due to the supply reliability, flexibility and cost advantages involved, Cheminova points out. About 30 people are employed at the site.
