On April 22, 2025, Bayer officially launched its first high-activity seaweed biostimulant product, An Hai Long, at the Bayer Innovation Hub in Danyang, Jiangsu, China. This innovative product aims to address numerous challenges in agricultural planting, such as soil degradation, nutrient absorption barriers, and extreme climates. It provides comprehensive stress resistance for crops and promotes sustainable agricultural development.
The core ingredient of An Hai Long is derived from Ascophyllum nodosum, a unique seaweed species that thrives in the extreme tidal environment of the North Atlantic. This seaweed has evolved remarkable vitality through long-term exposure to extreme cold and heat. Leveraging its extensive technical expertise and innovation capabilities, Bayer has successfully harnessed the biological characteristics of Ascophyllum nodosum to enhance crop yield and quality. Using a gentle multi-step extraction method and MOPAB targeting technology, An Hai Long retains a variety of active substances in the seaweed extract, including seaweed polysaccharides, laminarin, mannitol, alginic acid, amino acids, polyphenols, trace elements, and endogenous growth hormones. These substances can activate crop vitality from root to fruit.
Bayer's first high-activity seaweed biostimulant product, An Hai Long, boasts three core advantages: high-quality raw material sources, high content and activity of components, and strict manufacturing standards. Utilizing a gentle multi-step extraction method and MOPAB targeting technology, An Hai Long overcomes the limitations of traditional processes to retain a greater variety and quantity of active substances. It can activate crop vitality across four dimensions: improving quality and stress resistance, strengthening root systems, activating nutrients, and enhancing soil health. This leads to significant increases in yield and income. An Hai Long is suitable for both field crops and economic crops, offering versatile applications — foliar spray as registered, root drenching as experimented.
At the launch site, Bayer also showcased the field trials of An Hai Long on four types of crops: strawberries, grapes, cucumbers, and tomatoes. Comparative tests showed that crops treated with An Hai Long had significant advantages in leaf size, stem thickness, fruit color change speed, and fruit setting rate. For example, strawberries treated with An Hai Long had larger leaves, more runners, and faster fruit color change; cucumber plants were taller and had thicker stems; tomato plants were taller, with larger and greener leaves and faster fruit setting; grape plants had thicker fruit stems and larger, thicker leaves.

In recent years, as farmers have pursued higher yields, they have also increasingly focused on improving crop quality. The market is in urgent need of more efficient crop health solutions. Relying on its global R&D capabilities and German quality assurance, Bayer has launched the Delai crop efficiency portfolio. An Hai Long, as the latest seaweed biostimulant in this product line, can provide robust support in various scenarios of field and economic crops, meeting the growing planting needs of farmers.
The launch of An Hai Long marks another important innovation for Bayer in the field of biostimulants. The product contains 100% pure, high-activity North Atlantic Ascophyllum nodosum extract, with more than 200 grams per liter of organic matter and more than 90 grams per liter of potassium oxide. Bayer offers An Hai Long in various package sizes, including 200 milliliters, 1 liter, and 5 liters, to meet the application needs of different planting scales.
Bayer expects that An Hai Long will provide strong support for the various planting challenges faced in field and economic crops. It will transform every drop of natural nutrients into the vigorous vitality of crops, making the planting process more reliable and ensuring a more bountiful harvest.
