Xingfa Group’s subsidiary disclosed a patent for a continuous synthesis method of pyroxasulfone intermediate

Recently, Hubei Trisun Chemical Co. Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of China's Xingfa Group, has disclosed an important patent titled "A Continuous Synthesis Method for Pyroxasulfone Intermediate," with the application publication number CN119798243A. This patent introduces an innovative continuous production method for synthesizing pyroxasulfone intermediates, achieving high yield and high purity.

Pyroxasulfone is a highly marketable herbicide, functioning as an efficient pre-emergence soil treatment agent. Compared to traditional soil treatment agents like acetochlor and s-metolachlor, it requires only about 1/10 of the dosage. It has a broad application range, suitable for various crops such as corn, cotton, peanuts, wheat, and sunflowers, and can effectively control a wide range of grass and broadleaf weeds.

Currently, there are two main synthesis routes for pyroxasulfone. The traditional route, although seemingly simpler in steps, involves using a large amount of alkali, leading to intense exothermic reactions that are difficult to control. This results in low yield and purity of the intermediate due to the formation of impurities, and higher production costs, which limit its industrial advantages.

Xingfa Group's new patent addresses these issues through a continuous synthesis method. It overcomes the problems of poor stability, high impurity levels, and low yield and purity in traditional processes. The new method not only improves raw material utilization and reaction efficiency but also reduces reaction time from 3 hours to less than 20 minutes, while minimizing waste generation and lowering production costs.
