BASF has received an approval extension for the fungicide Navura. Effective immediately, farmers in Germany can now also protect their triticale from Fusarium infestation.

"Triticale is the most important animal feed. With Navura®, a broad-spectrum product it can control Fusarium is now available," emphasized Jochen Prochnow, Crop Manager for Cereal Fungicides at BASF Agricultural Solutions.

When it blooms and rains, it's Fusarium season

Fusarium is one of the most important cereal diseases worldwide. The risk of Fusarium infection is particularly high when it rains during flowering. Fusarium fungi not only cause yield losses, but also produce mycotoxins, toxic metabolites. When they adhere to the grain, they can be found throughout the entire processing chain. Mycotoxins are very persistent and cannot be destroyed by cold or heat treatment (e.g., cooking or sterilizing). Since July 2024, new limits for certain mycotoxins in grain have been in effect in the EU, including deoxynivalenol (DON), a mycotoxin produced by Fusarium fungi. "This makes Fusarium treatment even more important for farmers. Ultimately, it must be clear that Fusarium infestation can not only lead to a severe reduction in quality, but can even make the harvest completely unsaleable," Prochnow said.

Navura ensures yield and quality

The new fungicide Navura® is a combination of Revysol® and prothioconazole. It is particularly effective against a wide variety of diseases during the sensitive ripening process, such as Septoria, Fusarium, yellow rust, and brown rust. It can be used as a final treatment in all major grain crops. Thanks to an optimized formulation, the fungicide quickly wets the entire ear and works precisely where it's needed. The new cereal fungicide not only works very effectively but also offers farmers a high degree of flexibility in application, as Navura® is widely miscible and well-compatible with many products. Furthermore, the use of crop protection products is less dependent on weather conditions, as the active ingredients penetrate the plant quickly, providing excellent protection from rain and UV light.
