The price of glyphosate – the most used herbicide in Argentina – has fallen more than 40% over the past 12 months.
Jeremías Battistoni, author of the input analysis report from Grupo Az, Comprehensive Agribusiness Consulting for Latin America, based in Argentina, shared this information with AgroPages.
According to Battistoni, agrochemical prices have been trending downward throughout 2024. The specialist points to glyphosate as one of the main inputs in decline, having dropped from $7.4/lt in January 2024 to the current $4.4/lt.
"We found similar behavior in atrazine, which went from US$12/lt in January 2024 to the current US$7.6/lt, showing a 37% decline," added the author of the Grupo Az input analysis report.
He assured that despite the fall in grain prices, especially in available soybean values, agrochemical purchase relations remain positive. "As these input prices fall, purchase relations improve or remain positive, depending on the case," Battistoni pointed out.
Grain Prices
According to the Grupo Az report, grain prices also showed a downward trend this year. Available soybeans dropped from US$330/t in January 2024 to the current US$276/t, reflecting a 16% decline in the year. In the case of corn, prices went from US$219/t to US$189/t during the same period, reflecting a 14% fall.
According to the table (attached), purchase rates are positive for soybeans (in relation to glyphosate). Currently, 1.6 kg of soybeans are required for each liter of glyphosate. On average, 2 kg/lt has been needed over the past 3 years.
