Brazil has granted the right to use the organophosphate insecticide, acephate, as an emergency measure to control the lepidopteran pest, Eupalamides dedalus, on African oil palms. The Ministry of Agriculture’s co-ordinator general’s office of pesticides decided in April to extend the use for three months from the June 6th publication date of the official national diary gazette. Acephate is one of 14 active ingredients that Brazilian authorities are re-evaluating this year.
