The crop protection business of the German company, DVA (Hamburg), is to set up its first pesticide manufacturing facility. Work on the plant, which will be in Sao Paulo, Brazil, started last month. DVA Agro is investing $50 million in the project. “The construction starts a series of investments that the multinational is to carry out in the country,” the company says. It intends to raise its Brazilian investments to $100 million and create 250 jobs by 2014. Production of pesticide active ingredients is to start in 2010. The products will be exported to DVA businesses in 60 countries. “[We] want to make Brazil the centre of our operations for research, development and registration of agrochemical products,” the company adds. DVA has supplied pesticides since 1993 and started Brazilian operations in 2005. DVA Agro’s Brazilian operation had sales of $32 million in 2007, placing it among the 20 leading companies in the market.
