Mitsui & Co's agrochemical distribution company, Certis Europe, has received Italian approval for its biological insecticide, Cyd-X (Cydia pomonella granulosis virus) for use in apples, pears, walnuts, and quince. Cyd-X offers control of codling moths (Cydia pomonella) in apples and pears. Certis received approval for Cyd-X in the UK last year.
Certis Italy has launched Chemtura’s selective insect growth regulator, Indipendent 5 PB (diflubenzuron). The product is effective against lepidopteran, homopteran and dipteran insect pests and is labelled for use on pome fruits, ornamentals, nursery stock and forestry growing situations. Apart from offering control of codling moths in apples and pears, Indipendent 5B controls psylla (Cacopsylla pyricola) in pears. This is the first product in Italy from Certis Europe’s shareholder company, Chemtura. Diflubenzuron has been recommended for inclusion in Annex I of the EU registration Directive under the review of existing active ingredients.
Certis Italy expects to introduce an insecticide/acaricide and a wide-spectrum disinfectant during the current season.
