The board of Coromandel International has given its approval for the establishment of new phosphoric and sulphuric acid plants at the Kakinada fertiliser unit in Andhra Pradesh. The investment for these projects is set at Rs 1,029 crore. Within the next 24 months, the proposed facilities aim to introduce a capacity of 750 tpd for phosphoric acid and 1,800 tpd for sulphuric acid.
The funding for these ventures will be sourced through internal accruals and loans, with the primary objective of reducing the reliance on imports and transforming Kakinada into an integrated facility. However, the expansion of backward integration capabilities is contingent upon securing regulatory approvals. This decision comes on the heels of fully utilising the existing capacities of 1,550 tpd for phosphoric acid and 4,200 tpd for sulphuric acid.
Coromandel International’s strategic investment aligns with its long-term goals of ensuring a stable supply of crucial raw materials for fertiliser production. The anticipated benefits include enhanced cost efficiencies, improved raw material security, and a contribution to the government’s vision of Atma Nirbhar Bharat. The approval underscores the company’s commitment to sustainable growth and aligning with national objectives, positioning Coromandel International as a key player in the agricultural inputs sector.
