The Canadian Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) has proposed the continued registration of the herbicide, naptalam, provided that certain measures are taken to reduce risks to human health and the environment. They include a maximum application of 4.48 kg ai/ha once or twice a year, a 48-hour restricted entry interval and buffer zones to protect aquatic habitats. Chemtura's Alanap 3 is the only naptalam-based product registered in Canada. It is used for weed control in cucumbers, melons, squash and pumpkins. The PMRA's proposed re-evaluation decision is subject to a 45-day comment period from November 13th.
