Sumitomo Chemical’s US subsidiary, Valent USA Corporation (Walnut Creek, California), has received a use extension for its insecticide, Clutch 50 WDG (clothianidin 50%), for foliar use on grapevines. It was already registered on apples and pears. Clutch is effective against several grapevine pests, such as grape mealybugs (Pseudococcus maritimus) and glassy-winged sharpshooters (Homalodisca vitripennis), Valent notes. The company is seeking further extensions, including use on several vegetables and soil treatments for grapevines. Valent reached a US supply agreement for clothianidin with Arysta LifeScience last year.
