Brazil MAPA plans to expand pesticide registrations for minor crops

The Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food Supply (MAPA) published, on November 4, 2022, Ordinance No. 691 that allows public consultation for 90 days, on a proposal for a Joint Ordinance with Mapa, Ibama and Anvisa. 

The ordinance establishes the guidelines and requirements for the registration of pesticides, their components and the like for crops with insufficient phytosanitary support (CSFI), also known as minor crops, and small uses, as well as the maximum residue limit allowed.

The proposal aims to adjust and improve Joint Normative Instruction No. 1/2014 to expand the registration of products for CSFI, which can be used as an option in the integrated management of pests and favor the development of these crops safely and efficiently.

As a novelty, the proposal offers the inclusion of minor uses for the use of products in crops without expressiveness of cultivated area or the occasional use of a product in crops of economic importance, such as seed treatment or propagation material exclusively for export and cultivation of all forest species, except the eucalyptus crop. In Joint Normative Instruction No. 1/2014 there was no such provision for product registration.

After the established period, a technical group will evaluate the analyses of the submitted comments. It will be coordinated by the General Coordination of Agrochemicals and Related Products, with the representation of the other bodies responsible for the registration.
