The US garden products company, Scotts Miracle-Gro (Marysville, Ohio), is to review its regulatory compliance procedures following an EPA order to stop selling two illegal products. The herbicide/fertiliser mixtures have either not been registered or have labels with invalid EPA registration numbers. Scotts has engaged an independent consulting firm and has fired an employee who “caused invalid registration forms to be submitted … and then hid these actions from co-workers and managers” says Scotts chairman and CEO Jim Hagedorn. Scotts says that it is co-operating with the EPA over a national recall. It is also co-operating with the EPA and the Department of Justice over a criminal investigation.
