DuPont has announced foxtail barley has been added to its Assure II herbicide (active ingredient: quizalofop-p-ethyl) label, providing an option for western Canadian growers to manage this widespread weed in canola, flax and pulse crops.
The product provides "99 percent" control of foxtail barley, setting the stage for a cleaner wheat crop, says the company in a release.
"There are no selective herbicides available to control foxtail barley in wheat," says Andrew Stone, product manager for DuPont. "Assure II benefits growers by giving them a way to manage this prolific weed within their weed control system and crop rotation."
Assure II is applied at a rate of 0.5 L/ha. It is registered for use in canola, camelina, chickpeas, creeping red fescue (for seed production), dry common beans, flax, industrial hemp (fibre production only), lentils, peas (field and processing), seed alfalfa, seedling legumes (seed production), soybeans, snap beans and
sugar beets.
