The European Commission has urged companies to pre-register all chemicals by December 1st 2008 to comply with the new EU Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals (REACH) Regulation. The Regulation comes into force this June and includes agrochemical intermediates and co-formulants. The pre-registration period runs from June 1st to December 1st 2008, and is necessary if companies wish to continue manufacturing or importing a chemical. They would have to follow the pre-registration with a complete registration dossier, submission deadlines for which would range from November 2010 to May 2018. Some agrochemical intermediates and co-formulants will require registration and the agrochemical industry has already been warned to check the status of particular substances.
