Chinese biopesticide company Fujian Yanxuan Biological Treatment has shipped 60 million predacious mites to the Netherlands to help fight pest problems in roses. The shipment is valued at around Euro 6,700 ($10,600). Mites are used in China to control pests on oranges, cotton, apples and tea. They replaced 3,200 tonnes of pesticides on 191,000 ha of the company's demonstration sites, claims the company's chairwoman, Zhang Yanxuan. She stresses the mites' benefit to rural households as the pests cost half as much as pesticides.
